Florida State Seminoles Face Defensive Back Recruiting Challenges

The Florida State Seminoles are currently facing challenges in their defensive back recruiting efforts for the 2027 class. Earlier this year, the Seminoles appeared to have a solid foundation with commitments from four-star safety Mekhi Williams, four-star cornerback Bryce Williams, and three-star cornerback DaYon Cooper. However, in recent weeks, all three players have committed to other programs, leaving Florida State in a difficult position. DaYon Cooper was the latest to decommit, choosing Tennessee shortly after backing off his pledge to the Seminoles. With Cooper's departure, Florida State's only remaining commitment in the defensive backfield is three-star safety Jemari Foreman, who is now being heavily pursued by Louisville. The coaching staff, including cornerbacks coach Blue Adams and safeties coach Evan Cooper, faces significant work ahead to fill the gaps left by these decommitments. Additionally, four-star cornerback Kamil Loud recently announced his commitment to Cal, further complicating Florida State's recruiting landscape. Loud had been a target for the Seminoles but opted to stay closer to home in California. As Florida State continues to navigate these recruiting challenges, they are focusing on other prospects, including four-star Tae Walden Jr. and three-star Kamauri Whitfield. Currently, Florida State holds ten verbal commitments in their 2027 class, which ranks No. 58 in the nation. The team is looking to bolster its defensive backfield as they prepare for the upcoming season and future competitions.
